Yamaha Pro 500: A Beats-style headphone geared toward audiophiles

-I'm David Carnoy, executive editor for CNET.com, and I'm here with the Yamaha Pro 500 headphones.
This is a higher-end headphone that retails for $400.
It is a flagship model in Yamaha's new Pro line.
As you can see from its design, it has been influenced by the Beats Studio pros.
This is a slightly swankier-looking headphone.
It does have this nice polished finish.
It comes in black or blue.
The headphone also folds
up into a nice carrying case.
The carrying case is pretty big, but it is nice and it is nicely padded.
Not surprisingly going back to its audiophile roots, Yamaha has made a headphone that does sound very accurate.
It is very well balanced.
It has very nice clean sound.
It is an excellent sounding headphone.
However, we didn't think it was the most comfortable headphone.
It's comfortable, just not super comfy.
Couple of other things worth mentioning, the headphone does come with two cords.
One is a longer cord for
in-home use and one is a shorter cord that has an inline remote and microphone that is geared towards Apple devices, but it should work with other phones, just all the remote functionality will not.
Lastly, like some of the other new higher-end full-size headphones, there is a jack in both earcups that means you can plug the cable into either earcup.
You can also daisy chain a second pair of headphones so someone else can listen with their pair of headphones through your headphones to what you're listening to.
All in all, we really like the sound of
these Pro headphones.
They definitely have an audiophile profile.
So if you want really big boomy bass, these are probably not for you, but they do have very accurate sound.
They're a touch overpriced at $400, but all in all, a very impressive headphone at least in terms of sound quality.
