>> Hi, I'm Matthew Moskovciak, Assistant Manager at CNET and this is a Toshiba HDXA2, which is Toshiba's Flagship HD DVD player. As you can see, the design is relatively uncluttered with button on the front which is nice and then when you flip down this tray, there's some front panel controls. We like the design overall because you can have the uncluttered look but also have the functionality once you flip down the tray. One thing we didn't like about the player is the remote, which is very similar to Toshiba's HDA1. We had a lot of problems navigating without looking at the remote. On the upside, the remote is back lit, so in a dark home theater environment, at least you'll be able to see it. If you come around back you'll see the connectivity. The HDMI port of course is the most important and it can output HDVD's at 1080 P resolution. There's also a component video output, but there's also coaxial and optical, digital audio output. There's also an Ethernet jack on the back which is great because this player can be updated just by connecting it to an internet connection and it downloads the firmware. Another nice part about this player is the fact that it can play some of the high resolution audio soundtracks such as Dolby True HD. Obviously the most important feature of this player is the it can play back HDVD's, it can also play back standard definition dvd's and it can play back cd's which are something that some high def disk players have had a problem with. Moving on to performance, HD DVD performance was very good. Overall, we really like this player and it's probably the best HD DVD player on the market right now. Unfortunately we can't give it our full recommendation just because of the ongoing format war between HD DVD and Blue Ray. I'm Matthew Moskovciak and this is the Toshiba HDXA2.
