TDK TH WR700
Hi, I'm David Carnoy and I'm going to give you a quick tour of TDK's WR700 Wireless Headphones.
Now, the first thing you should know about these guys is they don't use Bluetooth technology.
Rather, they use wireless technology from a company called Kleer, that's spelled K-L-E-E-R, which promises to deliver uncompressed digital audio at CD quality.
It says that when you compare it to Bluetooth, you'll hear the difference and we did.
To use these headphones, all you have to do is plug in the included transmitter into your home stereo system or a mobile audio device and sync it with the headphones.
Both pieces are powered by two AAA batteries and what's nice is you don't have to worry about pairing the device like you do with Bluetooth.
The headphones connect quickly to the transmitter.
In terms of ergonomics, these guys are fairly comfortable and they seem pretty well built but they aren't super comfy.
We found ourselves making little adjustments after listening to them for a few minutes.
They have a nice padded headband and earcups that sit on your ears but don't totally cover them.
Like most closed back on your over-the-ear headphones, they can get a little steamy after using them for several minutes, particularly if you're using them in a warm environment.
While the transmitter is simple to set up and stows easily enough, it does have one drawback--it's somewhat bulky and looks a little clunky when attached to a mobile device.
However, when you plug it in to your home AV receiver, the size of the transmitter won't bother you.
It's also worth noting that an adaptor is included along with a short extension cable that allows you to access more deeply recessed headphone jacks and it comes in handy if you have a more rugged cellphone case you don't wanna take off.
TDK says that you should get about 30 to 40 hours of listening before you have to recharge the batteries and the wireless range is about 33 feet which is about what you get with Bluetooth.
While the WR700s are a little bright which may cause some listening fatigue, they deliver rich sound and good detail and strong bass.
What we liked was that we didn't feel as if we were listening to wireless headphones which is praise in itself, so despite some small shortcomings in their design, we think these headphones are a good option for people looking for a set of wireless headphones for late night TV watching or music listening, or just to have the freedom not to be tethered to your mobile device.
It's also worth mentioning that these headphones have come down significantly from their list price.
We've seen them for as low as $120 online, we think that's a pretty decent deal.
I'm David Carnoy and those are the TDK WR700 wireless headphones with Kleer technology.
