Sturdy tablet with a small keyboard
[MUSIC]
Hey, I'm Xiomara Blanco, and I'm taking a first look at the Dell Venue 10 7000.
This ten inch tablet is unique thanks to the bluetooth keyboard that connects to its cylindrical spine.
It magnetically attaches and detaches easily and it feels sturdy when connected.
As a standalone tablet the rounded edge on the Venue 10 7000 makes it comfortable to hold in one hand.
This is great for casual tasks like browsing the web, playing simple mobile games, or reading.
In addition, two front-facing speakers conveniently wrap around the spine so audio isn't blocked when connected to the keyboard.
It's worth noting that the construction of the tablet feels very solid, and it's flume design gives it a trendy, high-end aesthetic.
Proprietary keyboards for tablets are usually sold separately, but this one comes with the tablet.
It's not as spacious as a regular keyboard, so typing on it feels a bit cramped.
It takes a lot to get used to, especially since the track pad is so close to the keys.
I often find myself accidentally grazing it while typing.
To take full advantage of the keyboard, Dell loads the Venue 10 7,000 with Polaris Office Suite.
Unfortunately, if the keyboard becomes disconnected while using it The app abruptly closes your document, and you lose whatever work wasn't saved.
For this reason, I instead preferred using Google Docs for writing.
The Dell Venue 10 7000 runs a mostly pure version of Android lollipop 5.0 operating system, and its performance is typically swift and smooth.
I didn't experience any hiccups while browsing the web or or streaming video, and it's gaming prowess is actually pretty impressive.
However, it's design doesn't really lend itself to comfortable gaming.
Inside, it houses a 2.3 GHZ intel atom quad-core processor, 2 gigabytes of ram, sixteen gigabytes of internal storage, and a micro SD card that is expandable up to 512 gigabytes.
On the outside, the ten inch screen boasts a 2560 by 1600 pixel resolution OLED display.
That looks stunning.
HD content is razor sharp, and colors appear lifelike.
The tablet also features Dell's RealSense Camera.
Which allows you to adjust the focal point of the photo after you've taken it.
Located on the back of the tablet you'll find the regular 8 megapixel camera with two depth sensing cameras beneath it.
Once you take a photo all of the tools you need to tweak it are found in the pre-loaded Dell Gallery app.
Starting at $500, the Venue 10-7000 isn't exactly cheap.
However, as a compact workstation that comes with a keyboard, it's more affordable than getting a quality, portable laptop.
The tablet's sturdy and high-end design combined with steady performance puts it at the top of its class, making its high starting price a reasonable concession.
