>> Hi, I'm David KatzMaier senior editor from CNET.com and I'm with the Samsung HLT 5687S. This is a 56 inch rear projection HDTV using DLP technology. It's actually different from all the other DLP TV?s out there because it uses an LED light engine. That means instead of a bulb driving the picture and putting out all of the brightness, it's actually three LED?s. The advantage of that is that you don't get that rainbow effect that is associated with some of the other DLP?s out there on the market. The LEDs last a lot longer, Samsungs claiming 20,000 hours of life. Aside from that, this TV is very slickly designed. Samsung put a minimum of cabinet around the edge of the screen here. You can see there's about maybe three quarters of an inch on all the sides. Of course, the bottom is a little thicker. There is no visible speakers Samsung hid the speakers up underneath. And there's this chrome strip along the bottom here to give it a little bit of an accent. Feature wise the TV?s very well equipped there's plenty of ways to adjust the picture. You can play with the gamma you can adjust the color temperature, although we were a little bit disappointed that color temperature controls are not full there's just one slider that you use to go back and forth, but a little bit inexact compared to other TV?s. The input selection is excellent. Samsung mounted the inputs on the side of the TV opposed to the back. There's three HPMI inputs two component video inputs and one PC input. You can also connect a PC by HDMI, which actually works a lot better than the analogue PC input. We did find a lot of things to like about the Samsung's picture quality. It produced a nice deep level of black. The shadow detail was excellent there was also very good resolution. The picture was nice and sharp and the color accuracy was better than a lot of the rear project TVs we've tested. On the flip side its uniformity wasn't quite as good as those other rear projection TV?s. The middle of the screen was a little bit brighter than the edges and that became visible for example in dark areas. But over all we were really impressed by the picture quality. Anyway, that's a quick lot at the Samsung HLP 5687S and I'm David Katzmaier.
