[ Music ] ^M00:00:06 >> Hello Fight fans, I'm Veronica Belmont and this of course is Prize Fight. Only the strongest contestants enter the Prize Fight ring, but only the truly spectacular make it out alive. Today we have two of the greatest and most highly anticipated Core D smart phones on the market. The Samsung Black Jack versus the Rim Blackberry 8800. Can the corpus Blackberry defeat the stylish Black Jack? We've got five rounds coming up, so let's get rolling with round out, sexiness. [ Music ] At first glance, you see the two contenders look similar. Both are black and sleek. However, there are some noticeable differences. The Black Jack is very thin and light and has a boxier look than that of the 8800. And the soft touch finish is also nice and gives it kind of a classy edge. The Blackberry on the other hand is glossier and has more rounded edges. However, it's definitely heavier and larger all around. On top of that, it feels a little how do I say this delicately? Poorly constructed. I can feel it creaking in my hand. Maybe it's just a design flaw in this model. I hope. I'm giving the Samsung Black Jack a four and the Blackberry 8800 a three. Samsung has tempted me with its sex appeal, but I need a little more substance than that. Up next is navigation. [ Music ] Ah, the Blackberry scroll ball. It's the stuff of legends. You either hate it or you love it and I have to admit it did take some getting used to, for me at least. It's the kind of thing that with a little practice, you'd be blowing through menus like butter. The keyboard could stand to be a little more spaced out, but I didn't have much trouble with it. The Black Jack was also eat to use. The keyboard was roomier and the controls and navigation were very straightforward. Not much complaint here on either phone I have to say. Not knock outs but they pace themselves through the round just fine. Fours for everyone. The Samsung is still ahead by one, but there's plenty of time for an upset. Round three is connectivity. [ Music ] Looks like this will be another solid round. Wireless options are very important in this day and age and the Samsung comes into the round with a swift punch in the gut to the Blackberry with its HSDPA 3G network support as well as integrated Bluetooth. The Blackberry tries to keep its head off the mat with GPS and push to talk. But it can't beat the 3G of the Samsung. Neither has WIFI unfortunately. I'm giving the Samsung a five and the Rim Blackberry gets a four. Two more rounds left and it's still anyone's game. The score so far is 3 to 11 in favor of the Blackjack. Coming up next is round four, multimedia. [ Music ] All work and no play makes smart phones boring. The Black Jack has a nice one point three mega pixel camera. And to access to the Cingular video and Cingular music, which give you fast streaming content on the go. The Blackberry isn't so much known for being an entertainment device. I get it, it's supposed to be a work horse, it's all business. Well it can play music and video which is a nice addition compared to other Blackberries. But it doesn't even include a camera. Great if your employer has sensitive information they don't want leaked. But sucky if this is your primary phone and you need to take a quick snapshot of something. Maybe they should call it a Snore Berry, ha. Oh. The Samsung Black Jack gets a four and the Blackberry gets a three. Final round friends. It's not looking good for the Blackberry, but maybe it won't be as embarrassing as it could be. [ Music ] The Black Jack sounded pretty clear overall. There was some slight echo, but the speaker phone did a good job as well. And the volume level made hearing no problem. The Blackberry wasn't bad either, especially over the speaker phone. But there were some instances of muffling in a call. Or maybe we should stop testing the phones in the pillow room. What? You don't have a pillow room? The Samsung Black Jack gets four and the Rim Blackberry 8800 gets a three. And here are the final scores. The Black Jack wins with 21 over the Blackberry's 17. Oh snap, that was more brutal that I expected. Sorry Blackberry. Don't worry, you are still the most beloved of businessmen everywhere. If you want to suggest a Prize Fight, you can do so at PrizeFight at CNET.com. And don't worry, I'm listening to you. Stay tuned next month for the Prize Fight you've all been waiting for. It's so big I had to call in some friends for help. I'm Veronica Belmont, I'll see you next time. ^M00:04:13 [ Music ]
