Nikon's Z7 mirrorless makes a great first impression

[MUSIC] Nikon maybe really with it's serious malleus cameras but it powers it an tell from a few hours of shooting with a highness of seven. Nikon more or less nailed it on the first try [MUSIC] [MUSIC] Got a comfortable grip the IVF is big and bright and well designed and the shutter mechanism is just right. It's not too mushy, not too stiff and not too funky. When you focus manually, the AF area box turns green when you're in focus, which is a much less obtrusive method been peaking [MUSIC] As promised, the new lenses are sharp, and the 24 to 70 f/4 has a retractable design that just works. You don't need to press anything, just rotate. The autofocus is accurate. And while continuous autofocus can get distracted, overall, there are more hits than misses. At least for the not terribly fast action we got to shoot. JPEGs are cleaned through ISO3200 which is the highest I shot. And the battery lasted the whole session which is rare for me. Only dropping one bar, which is really comforting. It's not perfect though. We were using preproduction units so some of the problems I saw may not be issues once it ships. But the new sensor shift image stabilization seemed inconsistent. I got some perfect shots at a tenth of a second, but ones with shake at an 80th of a second. The slow motion video showed some moire's as well, which didn't appear in the regular 4K video. And that looks great by the way. I found the focus ring just slightly too loose and it kept twitching out of focus at least for the 35 millimeter lens and finally the metering seemed a bit inconsistent. Sometimes it worked as expected and other times underexposed. There was a lot of white in the scenes we shot though, and it could easily have missed the correct area to base the exposure on. But even with these issues, I think Nikon's gotten off to a great start in mirrorless. [MUSIC] [MUSIC]
