You can let Ring's Quick Replies do the talking
Speaker 1: Why even bother responding to the person at your door when ring can do it for you, I'm gonna walk you through how to use ring's quick replies feature. Right now,
Speaker 1: The ring video doorbell four includes a relatively new feature called quick replies, which lets the doorbell do the talking for you. So if you're introverted or just feeling shy, or maybe you have a mouthful of peanut butter or whatever, now your doorbell can [00:00:30] tell the delivery person to just leave the package and you can enjoy your sandwich without interruption. We saw the quick replies feature in action on the new ring four for the first time, it's a $200 video doorbell with a lot of good hardware and all of ring's usual baggage in terms of privacy and police partnerships. But it's actually rolling out to a lot of rings, older doorbells. So if you already have one, you should see it in your app. And if it's not there now it [00:01:00] should be there via an update. It's Sarah, you have to install your doorbell first obviously, but the process for ring four is the same as previous doorbells.
Speaker 1: Once it's installed and the app is set up, you'll be able to tell off your annoying neighbors with the ease of digital automation. Here are the steps from the main page of the app, click on your device. Then addings look for these smart responses button and you're there. You can easily toggle them on and off. You can set the delay [00:01:30] time right away is great. If you don't wanna do any talking ever, but maybe you want to answer the door most of the time, give yourself a few seconds. Then it'll respond. If you don't finally pick your message. There is that literally says leave the package. There's an answering machine style. Leave a message. Option. Lots of relatively generic choices. Here's my coworker, Dave testing. Each of these out in real time,
Speaker 2: Dave,
Speaker 3: [00:02:00] Sorry. We're not interested.
Speaker 1: What are you? My Tinder date from last night? Let me in, come on.
Speaker 3: Hi, please. Wait. It may take me a moment to answer.
Speaker 1: Hurry up. There's a meeting like 10 minutes.
Speaker 3: Please leave the package outside. If you'd like to leave a message, you can do it now. What
Speaker 1: Package day I work here. Open the door. No, that wasn't just a bit what tripod also note that you have to be [00:02:30] a premium subscriber to see the messages people left for you answering machine style and that's kind of it now. You know how to use the feature and let me say that I like it. I think it's cool, but that's not gonna stop me from complaining a little bit. I wish you could program custom responses or conditional responses. Your mom might be if she stopped by for a surprise visit and the tech she's always been suspicious of tells her to leave the package and get out. There's no face recognition, no [00:03:00] time of day automation, thus lots of generic responses built in though. You can turn the feature on and off fairly easily,
Speaker 2: But
Speaker 1: Now I really want an option that says, leave the, get out mom or speak friend and enter movie references. You know, what options would you want to see in the app? Leave a comment below to let me know. And thanks for watching the video. Please [00:03:30] hit that thumbs up button. If you enjoyed it and subscribe to C net's how to do it all channel for much more. Thank you for watching.
