HP Photosmart D110a
-We wouldn't recommend this printer for high-output households or large offices, but HP's clever new ePrint and Web-connected apps make it an excellent option for techie households.
I'm Justin Yu and this is a first look at the HP PhotoSmart D110 e-All-in-One Printer.
The D110a is more than just a standard multifunction, although it does have the standard features like printing, copying, and fax functionality.
It's also cheaper than most all-in-one printers at $100, but where the D110a shines
is in its Web connectivity features.
But, before we get to that, let's take a quick look around the printer itself.
We like that it doesn't take up a lot of room but it still gives you a copier and a full-sized scanner in addition to a paper tray, a memory card reader, and this 2.3-inch touchscreen LCD that you'll use to access the Web connectivity features.
But before you buy, you should know that the D110a works best if you're not printing a ton of documents a day.
The paper input tray is limited to just 80 sheets of
paper, so you'll have to refill every week or so depending on your volume of prints.
Also, we wish that you could adjust the angle of the screen as well, but for $100, we can't complain too much.
The cool thing about this printer though is that it can connect to the Internet and download apps similar to a smartphone.
HP is hoping that these new e-printers will get people away from the classic printer-computer relationship and get information like movie tickets, airline itineraries, and news articles directly on the printer itself.
HP's online ePrintCenter is the website where you can
navigate on the D110a directly and download apps, and its setup only took us about 10 minutes.
Just make sure that you have wireless Internet in your house before you buy it though since there's no Ethernet connection on the back.
Along with the ePrintCenter apps, the D110a also has ePrint.
That's HP's new service that lets you print from any device that doesn't have a standard USB port like an iPhone or an iPad.
As long as they can send out e-mail messages, you can send jobs directly to the printer using a unique e-mail address assigned to every printer that comes from HP.
We do have some critiques of the printer however, but you'll have to read the full review on CNET.com to get the details and our final recommendation.
So, that's gonna do it for me.
I'm Justin Yu.
You just took a first look at the HP PhotoSmart D110 e-All-in-One Printer.
Thanks for watching.
