Dell Venue 7 and 8 tablets play it simple and smooth
[MUSIC]
The Dell Venue seven and eight tablets are a simple pair of smooth performing vanilla android [INAUDIBLE] for the budget conscience shopper.
I'm, Xirmara Blanco for cnet, and we're gonna take a first look at these two tablets.
The seven and eight inch slates are relatively thin and light, but even in the category of budget [INAUDIBLE] you can find sleeker.
The back panel features a circular grooved texture that's reminiscent of a vinyl record.
I found it to be a stylus alternative to a typical smooth mat backside.
The grooves aren't sharp or deep enough to make an impression and it feels comfortable against your fingertips.
On the top edge, there's a power button, microphone pinhole, and headphone jack.
And micro USB port.
Volume buttons and microsd card slot located on the left and right edges.
The single speaker is located on the bottom edge and it works conjunctively with Maxx Audio Mobile, an app made for enhancing audio while watching video, listening to music, or gaming.
The tablets run Android 4.4 KitKat and aside from some pre-loaded software, it's a pure Android experience right out of the box.
The preloaded apps include full suites of Amazon and Google apps.
As well as Polaris Office, Evernote, a few popular mobile games, and more.
In addition, Dropbox is also on there and you get a free 20GB of cloud storage for a year with the purchase of your Dell tablet.
The Venue 7 and 8 house a 1.6GHZ dual core Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of Intel storage.
[MUSIC].
There's a one megapixel front facing camera and a five megapixel rear camera.
The [UNKNOWN] camera app doesn't offer a lot of scene modes or manual options, but I found the rear cameras to produce sharper, more detailed photos than what I'm used to seeing on tablets.
For basic tasks, they consistently perform swiftly.
Web browsing was silky smooth and mobile games ran without a hitch.
Performance did slow down when downloading many updates at once and when loading large apps.
But that's too be expected out of simply spce'ed slates.
The Veni Seven is one of the smoothest performing small budget tablets, and, at its 159 starting price, it's a great option for bargain shoppers.
Though the Avis menu similarly performs well it's design isn't as compact as comparatively specced midsized tables and there's nothing to really make it stand out against the competition unless a vanilla Android experience is something you crave.

Again, I am Dee Marablanco and this has been a first look at the Dell Venue 7 and 8.
