Cutting edge HDTV
>>[Background music] HD TV is still a fairly young product category. So innovation keeps happening fast. Here are two areas that Hi-Def TV buffs are all a twitter about. And you should be too if you want a cutting-edge Hi-Def TV.
>> First you'll hear about 1080P. This means the TV can show 1080 lines of picture, which isn't new in itself, but it can also do so progressively. That means every line of the picture is refreshed every time the TV repaints the image, many times per second. It promises a smoother picture, but you may not notice the difference unless you have a TV at least 50 inches or larger and watch a lot of action. Plus TV broadcasts are not in 1080P yet. So you typically have to get a Blu-ray deck to exploit this. You'll also hear about 120. That's the refresh rate. It means the TV repaints the picture 120 times every second which is twice as fast as a typical HD TV. Again promising a smoother more life-like image especially with motion, but we're not talking about a dramatic difference here. And probably none when watching a broadcast.
>>[Background music] Look at these technologies as ways to future proof your HD TV more than make it look dramatically better today.
