Apple foldable is coming, but maybe not an iPhone

Tech Industry
Foldable iPad, in-screen fingerprint scanner, Apple's credit card is open for business. And why the Note just left the iPhone in the dust. Let's get ready to the core of this week's Apple News and Rumors. [MUSIC] We'll start with a little update about Apple's foldable. It's no secret the company's at least looking into this foldable phone trend based on the multiple patents they've filed over the last few years. But up until now we were expecting an iPhone. Now it's looking like it's a foldable iPad that may come first, although not for a while. According to an investor's note from UBS Excited in CNBC the company is steadily working on this technology. But then it wouldn't be ready for prime time until 2021. Now the other interesting thing to note about the report, is that it says that pricing maybe one of the biggest [UNKNOWN] To bringing a product like this to market. In a survey they found that while people are willing to pay a premium for a foldable Apple product, they'd be willing to pay a max of 600 extra dollars. So it's still pricey. But not quite the $2,000 that Samsung is charging for the Galaxy Fold which at this point may or may not happen. For months rumors have been swirling about a potential Touch ID comeback for the iPhone 11. I should know cuz I helped spread them. A phone that would have both face ID and some kind of touch ID 2.0 stealthily embedded under the screen giving users two layers of security to protect their phones and more ways to unlock. It was no foldable iPhone rumor but hey, at least it added a little bit of excitement to an otherwise lackluster rumor cycle. The latest on this it's actually happening in 2021. No joke. This is getting ridiculous. This week longtime analyst mean she quo who should really have his own segment on this show because I feel like we quote him every single week says Apple will spend the next 18 months Ironing out kinks to bring you a face ID touch ID hybrid on the 2021 lineup, that three d camera module five g conductivity and smaller notch all of which at one point had been rumored features for this year, Have now been pushed back to the 2020 iPhone along with that complete redesign that we usually come to expect from non s years which leaves little to be excited for in 2019. [MUSIC] What do we get? Faster processor, a super white angle lens, may be reverse wireless charging and a faster charger in the box. And that, if you're lucky, all I can say is that new camera better be effing Amazing because as of this week the competition just got fierce. Samsung just unveiled its new note 10 and note 10 plus and yes, I'm well aware this is an apple show not Alphabet City, but I swear there's a time coming just wait for it. The note 10 has an in screen fingerprint scanner. Barely they're not surrounded by 6.8 inches of edge to edge screen. four cameras on the back including ultra wide angle and a 3D camera neatly lined up vertically on the back, reverse charging, a fast charger in the box and a 5G option. Sound familiar? Now, obviously, if you're an Apple fan, it's not all about the specs. You're probably in it for the ecosystem. And let's be honest, you're never gonna get IOS on the Note, nor will you get that added layer of security with face ID. Plus, [LAUGH] Bixby is arguably worse than even Siri. But still, even as an Apple fan, it's getting harder and harder to not have a wandering eye when you hear that its competitor already has features that we're gonna be waiting around for for the next two years. What do you guys think of the new Note? Is it tempting you to jump ship and leave Apple or are you all in on Apple? Let me know. And speaking of being all on Apple, you can now get a shiny new Apple card to match all of your Apple devices. Apple's first credit card started rolling out to a select number of users as of Tuesday of this week. The first people to get the invites were apparently selected at random from the pool of people who signed up to be notified On Apple's website. A larger public launch is due for later this month. Now once you get the invite all you need to do is hit the plus sign on the Wallet app, fill in your details, and pretty much start spending. The Apple card will immediately be added to your Apple Pay account. Although the physical titanium version of the card which is arguably why you're doing this, will arrive in the mail shortly after. Apple also published a series of tutorials on YouTube explaining everything from sign up to set up if you're curious. Now we already talked about the benefits which include those daily cash back rewards, the fact that you have no late fees That you have an easy way to manage your spending on the app. But as cool as the titanium credit card sounds and all it's still TBD on whether or not it will prove to be on par with some of the other popular credit cards out there. Although Apple Pay has already been widely successful and clearly. Apple has a loyal fan base ready to try it out. Last week I asked you guys whether or not you'd be willing to try out the Apple Credit Card and 40% of you answered Yes on my informal Twitter poll. While 42% of you said no, and then 18% of you had no idea what I was talkinga bout. But that's still a decent amount of interest. Juan Giraldo says he's gonna get it, First titanium card for me, while Michael Hosmer says he's holding off. My current travel rewards card still Still seems to be the better deal, and that's kind of the deal breaker for me too. No travel parts, although we still hoard one for CNet and you'll be one of the first to see it when we get it. And then there were a bunch of you that [UNKNOWN] because it won't yet be available in your country. But I like San's response. he says, I'm gonna wait For the Apple Card 2 with always on Siri. That wraps up our show for today, but don't forget to leave your comments about the iPhone vs. No debate down at the bottom or hit me up on Twitter, you know the drill. I'll try to respond as many of you as possible and I'll see you next week with more Apple Card on CNET.
