Land Rover's Peru Challenge destroyed my off-road ego

[MUSIC] You know whenever I have a chance to get the dirt underneath my wheels, I am there. Today, I'm here at the Landrover Experience Center in Carmel, California. I'll be taking the all new 2017 Landrover Discovery out on the Peru Challenge Course. And who knows? If I'm fast enough I might just win me a little trip to South American, so let's buckle up and see what I can do. [MUSIC] All right, I have buckled in, I'm here with Justin DeMayo. He is the lead instructor at the Land Rover Experience. What can you tell me about this Peru challenge trail? Sure, so this trail here is a Purpose built course that we've created here at our center. So with this really the goal at the end of the day is to have the fastest time. Okay. But also if you happen to touch one of those poles it's a one minute penalty. God please don't let me embarrass myself. All right here we go. [LAUGH] And in three, two, two. Two, one. [MUSIC] My gosh. My god, totally gonna hit that. Okay. What I love about these is that like you can take them to the mall but they're so capable. Really, look at this. We're on street tires and it's just like it ain't no thing, ya know. Nice little turn here, sharp one. got some rocks underneath us. ****. And she hits the post. We'll add a minute to that score card. I can't believe I just lost the trip to Peru. We just lost the trip to Peru Okay. All right. Big turn here. Okay, here we go. This is a lot easier, shoot, I'm gonna get this hit. Man! [LAUGH] You have driven before, right? [LAUGH] Shut up. [LAUGH] But look at how capable, look at this large hole here. I know. It looks like it's gonna be a little off camber, we'll see what happens here. This is gonna be totally off camber, I'm gonna get some! Nice There you go, good job. Woah, got wheels off. Good job. Tire off the ground, [INAUDIBLE] that tire. Nicely done. Don't hit that pole. Man you squeaked by that one. It's like we put these poles to be in your way. I know. Who did that? Hit that one. No. And it's I think you actually ran it over. [LAUGH] Another tire off the ground. Look how easy it just walks through this. Yeah it really does. This is a seven person vehicle right? Right yeah. So [LAUGH]. I literally thought I was gonna get through this. In like three minutes. [LAUGH] That's deceiving, isnt it? [LAUGH] It is. [LAUGH] And I do notice, that we've got hill decent control, come on automatically when we put it in a lower gear Yep, ran over that post. That's how many? I'm going to have to break out the clipboard and the score card here [LAUGH] And start tallying these on you. [LAUGH] My God, I'm so getting fired. Three minutes total on the penalties there, Emmy, another tire off the ground, doing well. [LAUGH] Yeah, so like you were saying, yeah, [UNKNOWN] controls even come in in play here on the course as you're coming down. You can hear that little Vibration, which is similar to that sound we hear there. Which is telling you that traction control is working. Mm-hm. So we've developed that sound really as an audible so you know what systems are coming into play as you're making your way through. In this case it's an off road course. But in reality you might Just beyond the trail somewhere. That was so close. Just squeaked by that, see? How far out you have to make the turn in order to accommodate the wheelbase, right? Yeah, yeah, it's just getting used to that, like anything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It doesn't matter what products. So there's another ran-over post. [MUSIC] And almost past the- Wait, I gotta go past the thing? Last ditch and flag. Okay! Look at that Emme. We've got you out, 5 minutes and 25 seconds. [LAUGH] And how many poles? And how many poles did we completely run over? I think it was three. No, it was four. No, I think it was four. [LAUGH] it was poor. So lets just make it 9 minutes and 20 seconds. I am so embarrassed. Well I have definitely lost whatever off-road credibility I had. Justin told me the best time on this course is three minutes and that's with no pits You have until August 31st to beat that time at three Landrover Experience Centers. Here in California, one in North Carolina, and one in Vermont. [MUSIC]
