I'm not buying at the moment until the Xbox360 and PS3 are coming out. No point in wasting money.

Sales take a hit

Well yeah, what did you expect? Whats the point on wasting money on old hardware when the new stuff is coming out very shortly. The 360 is coming out very soon, and the PS3 is coming out in a few months as well.

Next up are DVD's

The problem with the games will start for DVD's next year
What's the point of buying DVD's right now when in a year they are coming out with HD-DVD/Blu-Ray. And since they are coming out with 2 different formats. I bet you people will be reluctant to upgrade their collection full force. Betamax anyone?

The other way around.

I'd say it's the other way around. There's a real reason to upgrade to the Xbox 360, but there's no reason to upgrade DVDs to blu-rays. Blurays are going to be copy-protected, which will hurt rentals significantly, and most people have legacy televisions and dvd players, so cannot take advantage of the enhanced quality of bluray.
Sales are always bad in October
by nightveil November 12, 2005 10:33 PM PST
Sales in general are down in October. The pre-holiday, post-
school doldrums hit. Things will have picked up in November
and of course, by January we'll have found out that retailers had
an even better Christmas season than last year.

The issue of new game hardware is also having an effect, but it's
probably a lot less than people suspect.

DVDs are another issue altogether. Since the penetration of
current generation DVD players is almost as universal as the VHS
VCR, the adoption of whichever format wins will be slower. It's
different than the VHS/Betamax wars because both formats were
available simultaneously and there was no other format already
in use. The HD-DVD/Blu-Ray debacle is more like the adoption
of CDs for music insteadof vinyl or cassettes where it took
several years for CDs to completely take over. The movie studios
are in a position where they can really wait and see what
happens without really worrying about their revenue streams.

Comcast pulled G4 (their game network) off their lineup
by Mike9302 November 13, 2005 8:34 AM PST
Here in Philly, (home of comcast headquarters) they pulled their G4
network off my cable line up and replaced it with OLN.
If comcast is dropping their support for games, are they dropping
their ad rates as they drop viewers from access to gaming info?

Last year had Halo 2 (Enough said, really)
by Myrpok November 17, 2005 12:49 PM PST
All of the companies (as the author alluded to) are in transition. The only game that's still coming out that will probably be more than a blip on the radar is Zelda: Twighlight Princess. Besides that, last year Halo 2 came out, which had over 1.5 MILLION -PRE-ORDERS-. Pre-orders alone. That and GTA: San Andreas. And Metroid Prime. And half a dozen other gaes that were blockbuster titles. The only game bought recently was FarCry: Instincts, which isn't a brand new title. I don't know why this is -news-. The only people who'd care should already know this.
