McAfee president jumps to Websense

January 10, 2006
McAfee has promoted two executives to fill the roles of president and chief operating officer, replacing Gene Hodges, who held both those positions and left in January to head Websense.

McAfee, based in Santa Clara, Calif., said on Monday that it promoted Kevin Weiss, executive vice president of worldwide sales and services, to the position of president. Eric Brown, McAfee's chief financial officer, also takes on the additional responsibilities of chief operating officer, the company said in a statement.

Weiss and Brown both report to George Samenuk, McAfee's chairman and chief executive officer.

Weiss has been a member of McAfee's executive management for the past three years. He first joined the company as president of the Europe, Middle East & Africa region. Prior to joining McAfee, the Princeton University graduate held senior positions at Ariba, BindView and BMC Software, according to McAfee's statement.

Brown joined McAfee in January 2005 as chief financial officer. Prior to McAfee, Brown, who holds a master's degree and a bachelor's degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was president and chief financial officer at Microstrategy and worked at Electronic Arts.

McAfee, the world's second largest antivirus company, has seen several executive changes and promotions recently. Last week, the company announced the appointment of George Heron as vice president and chief scientist, as well as the addition of John Viega as chief security architect.

In February, McAfee said Stuart McClure, senior vice president of global threats, would head its McAfee AVERT Labs antivirus and vulnerability research organization.

McAfee shares ended the day on the New York Stock Exchange down 0.5 percent at $24.38, and have ranged in price from $20.35 to $33.24 during the past 52 weeks.
