A virtual Philadelphia comes to life

This 3D computer model of Philadelphia was built by GeoSim Systems, in coordination with the city's downtown improvement district. Part of the goal for the city model is that it be integrated with other data, like listings of shops and rental space.

Meetings? Use it for directions.
This technology would have abetter chance of seeing the light of day if it were incorporated into Google or MapQuest's driving directions.

Imagine having turn-by-turn directions with land marks. It's idiot-proof.

Double Browsing
Idiot proofing: it's harder than it sounds. It will be easier when
GPS and heads-up display are more pervasive. Navigating with a
separate display slows you way down. Until then, "double
browsing" will be a new psychological condition for city
navigators, savy and unsavy alike. <a href="#">"Mirror
Worlds"<a/> by David Gelertner seems to provide some more
appropriate uses of this technology for the immediate future.
The topics he addresses include: city management, business,
spatializing information (that's the Google connection?), and
some others I can't remember.
