and that's what this megapixel war is. i'm a reasonably competent photographer with about 40 years experience. and, while i can see the need for larger megapixel cameras for pro's and very accomplished amateurs who wish to make exceedingly large prints (stuff like wall posters and such), i don't see any reason that the typical consumer requires a 7 or 8 megapixel camera more than he/she would a medium-format camera. come on, cnet, tell the consumers how they're being ripped off. what *is* needed is mentioned only in passing in the article: faster response time and elimination of shutter lag. shutter lag is inexcusable and results in too many missed photos.
