Dell opens service center for businesses

November 18, 2003
Dell announced on Wednesday that it is opening a command center to offer improved services to its business customers in China.

The new facility, located in Xiamen, is the second Enterprise Command Center (ECC) that the PC maker has set up in the past year. The first ECC is based at Dell's headquarters in Round Rock, Texas. The centers provide around-the-clock spares and service support to server and storage customers.

The plan behind the ECCs is to help Dell take better and quicker care of problems for its high-value customers. The company said its American ECC has seen a 25 percent improvement in resolving initial customer problems since it was set up in November last year.

More centers will be opened in Europe and Japan later this year, Dell said in a statement. The European center will be in Limerick, Ireland; the location of the Japanese center is yet to be announced. One more ECC is slated to be established in the Asia-Pacific region early next year.
