Apple polishes networking software
April 2, 2003
Remote Desktop 2 has more than 50 new features, the company said.
Those features include the ability to handle desktop management tasks such as installing an operating system or application software, running hardware or software inventory reports or executing commands on one or more Mac terminals remotely.
A screen-sharing feature built into the software will let help desk professionals provide online assistance by remotely monitoring and controlling Virtual Network Computing-enabled computers, even if they run the Windows or Linux OSes.
Remote Desktop 2's remote software installation tools make it possible for software professionals to install software packages immediately or at scheduled dates and times.
The software, available in July through Apple stores, will have a suggested retail price of $299 for managing up to 10 machines and $499 for managing an unlimited number of systems.
