I'm an Apple user, but I suspect Vista will have a lot to offer. Given the price of computers these days I'll purchase a Windows rig and have both. Why not? This is not about your favorite team, it's about using technology to expand our embarassing addiction.
I own a Mac-Based production company -- we use mac's for one simple reason: they make us more money in less time due to the superiority of the overall system.
However, we have many XP, 2000, and will have two Vista boxes as well -- we test all our flash, video, and web-based work on them.
Like I said, please save the world and buy something other than MS. With so many good options, I do mean this, Mac's are outstanding and Linux is solid MS will soon crumble. Well maybe not the MS crumbling bit but we need to give people like you reasons to live.

I'm writing this on a MacBook that runs XP. I'll install Vista, and if it acts up, I'll just wipe the "soft" partition and reclaim 20 GB for the Mac OS.
Who cares about your Mac if you're still running XP?
So, what esentially have you changed? You're still running XP, are you not? Why bother to buy a computer and then shell out the extra $$$ to buy XP seperately when you can get one that comes with it? Why aren't you only running OSX, the operating system that came with your computer? If you run XP, then you are no different from me, except I didn't have to buy the OS seperately. To me, it's rather stupid to waste $$$ like that.
shelling out for vista (or even XP) is an expense that I am unwilling to pay. Instead I built an OEM machine and installed ubuntu. Try it it's good. And thanks to beryl, looks even nicer than vista for free and without buying a new machine.

went from beta to rc then vista home premium, only difference, desktop symbols.after a year of testing vista,i thought testers would receive discount on final version,no go.microsoft says be happy we let you test screw up your computer,i had this desktop made from dell,so i could support vista,my six year old notebook has xp sp2.better choice.

With prices that make even Microsoft look greedy, bloated hardware requirements, and other problems, why would we bother with Vista? I am advising my clients to wait until they buy a new system to get vista. There is NO rush whatsoever. The only way to get it for a reasonable price is to get it OEM with a new system.

I used to work at a newspaper as well, 15 computers in all, 14 were Macs and the remaining was a file server running Netware. I use my Mac to account my finances, and do work-related Keynote and PowerPoint slide presentations. Macs can do real work-related things.

I am sick & tired of reading journos comments about the "delays" with the release of Vista. Way back in late 2005 & early 2006 Microsoft announced Vista would be available to the general public by January 2007, with unconfirmed dates of availability possibly 2-3 months earlier for the Corporate Sector - which is exactly what happened. I worked as Sales & Tech Manager for an OEM System Builder & advised all of my customers of the proposed release dates of Vista way back in 2005. These dates released by Microsoft were quite accurate. If you journos don't have good memories, maybe you should start keeping notes? Or is it just the drama-factor to make people read your stories? Do a little research & you'll find I am correct. I even read some of these stories regarding release dates through your own site back in 2005 - get with the program guys, and report on the real issues.
