Roku 3 streaming box rocks new features

The latest Roku puts a new spin on the remote, Google+ sports a new design ahead of Facebook, and Foap will pay you for pictures.

CNET Update is cuckoo for Roku:

Roku 3 streaming box rocks new features

The Roku 3 continues prove its the king of the streaming machines. The latest version replaces the XS model with a faster processor and a new remote that includes headphones, so users can listen to shows in private without bothering others in the room. It also has a new interface that makes it easier to scroll through channels. Current Roku owners will also see the new menu in April.

The Roku goes beyond simply streaming videos on demand -- it also can tune into live TV channels with a new app for Time Warner Cable customers. If you have Time Warner, the Roku lets you save money and ditch the cable box for your secondary televisions (that is, unless you need that channel guide.) Lets hope other television providers come out with similar apps.

Also mentioned in Wednesday's tech news roundup:

- Google+ gets a redesign just a day before Facebook unveils a new News Feed.

- Google Play is giving away freebies and deals to celebrate its one year anniversary.

- The Foap app launches Missions as a new way to pay users for photos.
