Gresso luxury phone for rich oil tycoons

The latest addition to Gresso's Avantgarde line is literally worth its weight in gold, with approximately 5 ounces of the $50,000 phone's 7 ounces weight made up by the precious metal.

Russian electronics maker Gresso, known for its million-dollar feature phones and flash drives, is at it again with the Grand Premiere. After all, what better way to flaunt one's wealth than with a phone made of 18-carat gold?

The latest addition to Gresso's Avantgarde range of phones--and just as limited in quantity--the Grand Premiere is literally worth its weight in gold, with approximately 5 ounces of the phone's 7-ounce weight made up by the precious metal. The phone's frame and laser-etched keys are made of yellow gold.

That's not all: the Grand Premiere's screen, front, and back panels are also covered with black sapphire.

Not much else is known about the phone's tech specs. However, the phone is running on S40 for feature phones, so don't expect smartphone capabilities.

Its lack of tech specs and price tag of a cool $50,000 won't put off the wealthy Russian oil magnates, as Gresso seems to have numerous retail outlets in the country. If you have really deep pockets, you can order the phone via the company's Web site at the end of the year.

At that price, it is comparable to the similarly overpriced AE+Y phone from Aesir. However, the Grand Premiere has a limited edition run of only 30 units, and each will be engraved with its production number.

At that price, I'd much prefer a certain luxury handset that comes with its own 24-hour concierge service.
