BlackBerry's newest global creative director, recording artist Alicia Keys, must have been given an offer she couldn't refuse.
Keys, who today said would help "inspire the future" of BlackBerry (formerly Research In Motion), is a longtime Apple user. That includes tweeting from iOS devices, and publishing her photography app Alicia Keys Photo Booth exclusively on the App Store. Keys also uses Facebook-owned Instagram -- which is not yet available on BlackBerry's platform -- where she has more than 1.6 million followers.
In a question and answer session with reporters following today's BlackBerry event, Keys declined to say what platform she was switching from, though noted she had two phones: a BlackBerry for work and a personal one.
Before getting too hot and bothered with the change in allegiance, it's not the first time this has happened with a celeb. Keys played three songs at a Nokia press conference in 2007, where the company debuted its N90, N91, and N70 phones. Artists like Bono and John Mayer have also notably cut involvement with Apple in favor of RIM in 2009 and 2007 respectively.
Keys is the latest in a series of celebrities used to promote a technology company, but is on a short list of those given an actual position. Others include Will.i.am working for Intel, as well as Lady Gaga becoming the creative director for a specialty line of electronics for Polaroid in 2010.
