Apple's online store down, raising product anticipation

Site outage usually portends a new product release, but with iPhone 5 released and iPad Mini unannounced, mystery abounds.

Apple's online store is down at this hour, which is typically indicative of a new product release on the horizon.

However, what that might portend is a bit of mystery. With the iPhone 5's launch and new iPods already in Apple's rear-view mirror and the unannounced but much-rumored iPad Mini still apparently further down the road, it leaves one to wonder what Apple is adding to the store.

Might Apple have some last-minute changes in store for the Mac line before the holiday shopping season kicks in to full gear next month? It's anyone's guess at this point.

The store doesn't usually go down for long, but CNET will keep an eye out for significant additions. In the meantime, review our gallery below of "We'll be back" messages and see how many languages you can identify.

Updated at 5:17 a.m. PT October 5: When the store came back online, it was not apparent that any new products had been added. Meanwhile, though, Apple has updated its home page with a video tribute to the late Steve Jobs to mark the one-year anniversary of his death.
