Google's Gundotra: Nexus will have 'insanely great cameras'
In a teasing statement, Google's senior vice president of engineering says that future Nexus models will have cameras that will make us sit up and take notice.

Over at Google+, a photography-themed discussion relating to the quality of DSLR cameras and image quality versus the nuisance of carting around heavy pieces of equipment led Vic Gundotra, senior vice president of engineering, to say the tech giant is "committed to making Nexus phones insanely great cameras."
In case any of you remain dubious, Gundotra further commented "just you wait and see."

People buy Nexus smartphones for a number of reasons. Quickly updated and fairly cheap they may be, but camera quality has not (so far) been on the list. This hasn't stopped demand for the Nexus 4 far outstripping stock, however, with continual supply issues placed squarely at the feet of LG.
Having to "wait and see" may relate to Google's I/O developer conference, which is set for May this year. Something, however, is for certain -- if Google is going to compete with the likes of Apple and HTC, it will have to pull something out of the hat to lure consumers who consider smartphone camera features important.
Whether we see any camera-enhancement for Nexus models will have to wait until Google's I/O, but we have seen details emerge concerning the latest anticipated upgrade to the Android operating system, Key Lime Pie. Accidentally confirmed by Qualcomm, Key Lime Pie will replace the current operating system, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean later this year.
