Google sent out press invitations today that included a colorful New York skyline (complete with the Brooklyn Bridge), and a simple tagline that read: "The playground is open."

Scheduled for October 29 at 10 a.m. ET, the press conference will be held at Basketball City in New York. It will be held the same day Microsoft plans its Windows Phone 8 launch.

Though few details are given, we anticipate that the event will include news about Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates, and Google's new line of Nexus phones.

In addition, the "playground" reference can be a nod to news about Google's Play store, and the invitation design looks awfully similar to the header currently seen on Google Now, which is a Jelly Bean feature.

Fortunately, for those of you who didn't get the invite, the whole event will be streamed live at Youtube.com/Android, and you can bet that CNET will cover it.
