Several Facebook users have reported getting a "service not available" message when they tried to log into the social network Tuesday evening, according to the site isitdownrightnow.com. Other users noted Facebook pages were loading slowly, but that the service was still working.
Web service monitoring site downrightnow.com reported that the social network is currently experiencing a "Likely Service Disruption," while a similar monitoring service downforeveryoneorjustme.com is also reporting that Facebook is down.
Downrightnow.com's timeline of the service disruption suggests that Facebook has had sporadic service over the last 24 hours -- going out for minutes at a time and then coming back online. Before the current disruption, the last widespread service disruption was reported at 4:30 p.m. PT. While the site is down for many people, mobile notifications seem to be working, as is the mobile site m.facebook.com.
It's unclear what exactly is causing the current outage. CNET contacted Facebook for comment. We'll update the story when we get more information.
