The Federal Trade Commission's new campaign to help consumers keep their personal data safe online includes its very own Internet mascot.

The campaign offers a new Web site--and Dewie the e-Turtle. According to the FTC, "Dewie's wired, but carries his security shell no matter what he's doing on the Internet."

The new site includes resources such as guides to using broadband services safely, tips for online shopping security, and tools to help prevent spam. It also provides links to law enforcement agencies that handle cybercrime issues and features pages in Spanish, as well as ones for children.

Internet security has become a key issue in Washington. Earlier this month, the White House released its draft of cybersecurity recommendations, which urges industry and individuals to take stronger precautions to protect themselves.
