Bank of America suffers site outage

Bank of America's online banking site was dogged by problems in its third day of sporadic outages and slow service.

The company's online banking site for California customers was down for about three hours Thursday, and went down again in the afternoon, company representatives said.

Meanwhile, the company's online banking services suffered a nationwide outage from at least 11:45 a.m. PST to 12:45 p.m. PST, company representatives said. Executives blamed the outages both inside and outside California on a problem with the sites' network connection.

"We're working as quickly as we can to restore the service," said Bank of America spokesman Harvey Radin.

The outages come after Bank of America's California online banking customers experienced problems for two days while using the site. Although the California banking site did not suffer an outage on Tuesday or Wednesday, the same network problems slowed the delivery of pages and made it difficult for many customers to log on to their accounts, said company spokeswoman Eloise Hale.

Customers who tried to log on to the online banking site received a message saying that the service was temporarily unavailable.

"We are currently experiencing an online banking service interruption," the company said in its note to customers. "We apologize for this inconvenience and are working to restore your service as quickly as possible."

Bakersfield, Calif., resident Len Svitenko on Thursday said that he's tried to get into his online banking account for the past three days. Svitenko, who visits Bank of America's online banking site daily to pay bills, said he's been unable to do so since Monday.

"It's frustrating, there's no question," he said. "It's a pain. They have a good site when it works, but three days is ridiculous."

Bank of America's site is having problems again!
This morning you could log in, but when you go to the accounts selection and select an account you get an error. Customer service acknowledged that it was their problem in a phone call. They just fixed it a minute ago. But what an embarrassment for such a large company that must spend millions on IT.
