Security Update 2006-007 Special Report: Microsoft Office applications: Problems launching
Several users continue to report an inability to launch (or crashes shortly after launch) various Microsoft Office applications -- especially Entourage -- after applying Security Update 2006-007.
MacFixIt reader J writes: "Looks like all my users who pulled down yesterday's update now aren't able to run Entourage, it crashes about 3 seconds after launch.
"The environment is a mix of Intel and PPC Macs, all using current version of Entourage. note that the app version below is in fact the latest updated version of Microsoft Office 11.3."
Another reader adds: "I have new 17" Mac Book Pro-Intel core 2 duo. After update all Microsoft Programs crash on a random basis, Safari also crashes randomly."
In some cases, updating prebinding (as described above) can restore the ability to launch Microsoft applications -- especially when running under Rosetta on Intel-based Macs.
Other users are finding success with workarounds listed in our tutorial "What to do when a Mac OS X application will not launch," -- particularly re-installing of the entire Office suite.
