Overview of Blu-Ray format IT Enquirer has a brief overview of the Blu-Ray disc format, which Apple recently announced it would back. "Blu-Ray discs must be able to record and store HDTV digital broadcasts of more than 2 hours. In a DVD recorder, received and decoded video signals are compressed by an MPEG encoder and then recorded onto the disc. Since DVD deals with DV quality broadcasts, compression can be quite high before anyone notices a loss of quality. Digital broadcasts being HDTV, the quality standards are higher and therefore need more room." More.

Adobe's buyout of Macromedia: Good for Adobe Publish provides third-party analysis of the Adobe/Macromedia deal, noting "Analysts seem to be of one mind about the pending acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe Systems: It's good for Adobe, and Microsoft should watch out." More.
