Verizon officially rolls out BlackBerry Storm firmware update

RIM BlackBerry Storm
(Credit: Corinne Schulze/CBS Interactive)Earlier on Friday, we reported on rumors that Verizon Wireless would release a firmware update for the RIM BlackBerry Storm, but it's now official.
The carrier has begun rolling out the software upgrade via the Desktop Software Manager and Web-based software first, while the over-the-air update will be pushed out at 9:30 p.m. PST on Friday so you have three choices as to how you want to get the new software. You can check Verizon's support Web site for specific instructions.
We'll be installing the update on our review unit and making adjustments to our full review where necessary, so check back soon for a complete report. Meanwhile, feel free to use our Comments section below to discuss your experiences.

Cosmo your a ****** almost every new electronic piece of equipment that comes out you will pay to be a beta tester. The only way you wont is to be a the end of the line and behind the times .Enjoy your razr flip phone .
The iphone was introduced to "rave" reviews, unlike the bashing the Storm has received.
Oh, and the fact that Rimm is copying the iPhone just shows how important the iPhone is to the industry. How about an original thought Rimm?
I love Apple, but I find it endlessly amusing how they, and the sheep like you, act as if there had never been a touchscreen device anywhere ever, much less on a phone, prior to the iphone. There are many innovative hardware and software features, but the actual function of a touchscreen remained the same. You say multitouch screen, I say surepress, and I'll take the ability to type accurately on a touchscreen over a cheap zoom in/zoom out gimmick.
And snarky comments like the ones that you had to offer indicate a lack of knowledge on the issue outside of rhetoric.
To have a phone that clicks...I mean, what mad genius came up with that idea?!!
Phones will never be the same again. Everyone, and I mean everyone, will demand that their phone click. It's not just a phone anymore...it's a phone that clicks! Unbelievable what modern technology provides us to further enrich our lives!!! (ah, hummmmmmmmm)

I tried to type on the thing and my finger just about cramped up. I guess I needed a business card with me. I hope Rimm includes one in the box, or will toilet paper work?
.76 is supposed to be a significant improvement. Don't know anything about .78 yet.

- The Storm was my Christmas present . I have had the LG VX 8600 for a few years, and another LG before that. Have two Moto KRZR K1 phones in the house and another LG with TV capabilities.

(34 Comments)The LG VX 8600 was a great phone in my estimation, and I bought the Storm AFTER seeing all the hype (good and bad) about it. I am happy with it. It took me a few days to get comfortable with the keyboards, but I am....and I knew some apps would be a little slow (they are) but still a very nice device. The probs are not as bad as it seems from all the reading. I have been in the IT field for almost 20 years. I am used to testing things. This phone is better than I expected.
