Short Take: Gigabit Ethernet standard set for review

The Gigabit Ethernet Alliance announced that the first draft of the standard for Gigabit Ethernet networking technology, which sends data at speeds of 1000MB per second, will be reviewed next week in San Diego. The alliance, a task force within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is expected to complete the approval process for a draft version of the specification sometime this year, with a standard slated for 1998.
