Short Take: Alteon WebSystems reports earnings

Alteon WebSystems, which makes networking gear that speeds the performance of Web sites, today announced that net sales for the third quarter were $28.2 million, up 65 percent from the $17.1 million reported in the second quarter of fiscal 2000, and up 321 percent from the $6.7 million in net sales reported in the third quarter of fiscal 1999. Net loss for the quarter was $1 million, or a loss of 3 cents per share based on 37.6 million shares. This compares with a net loss of $3.9 million, or a loss of 11 cents per share based on 35.5 million shares in the second quarter of fiscal 2000, and a net loss of $2.7 million, or a loss of 35 cents per share on 7.9 million shares for the third quarter of fiscal 1999, according to the company.
