Samsung Galaxy S Advance coming to the UK on 30 April
The Samsung Galaxy S Advance is a souped-up Galaxy S. Expect it to hit the UK in just a few days.
The Samsung Galaxy S Advance -- little brother to the Galaxy S2 -- will be out in the UK on 30 April, Samsung has confirmed. Hey, that's Monday! Where does the time go...?
The S Advance is a beefed-up version of 2010's splendid Galaxy S, and as you'd expect, specs-wise it's somewhere in-between the Galaxy S and Galaxy S2. Expect a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz and an elegantly curved 4-inch 480x800-pixel Super AMOLED display.
The camera is unlikely to blow your socks off, sporting a relatively paltry 5 megapixels. The other bit of bad news is that this phone won't be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich -- instead it's stuck on version 2.3, aka Gingerbread.
There's nothing wrong with Gingerbread -- the vast majority of the Android world seems quite content with it, in fact. But when you're splashing out on a brand new phone, being denied the latest software is galling.
I've been hands-on with the S Advance already and was impressed by the classy design and colourful display. It's dead light too at 120g, and reasonably thin, measuring 9.7mm deep.
If it lands bearing a low enough price tag, this could be a winner. Those with a little more moolah will want to examine the Galaxy S2 though, which offers better specs for what's unlikely to be much more cash.
