Google Maps just made bikesharing easier in these cities
The feature has rolled out to 16 countries.
Google Maps will now show you where your nearest bike-sharing station is.
Google Maps on Tuesday started showing where your nearest bike-sharing station is, along with real-time information on the number of bikes available, in 24 cities around the world on iOS and Android. The feature,whic has been available in New York for the past year, also tells you if there's an empty space at a station near your destination.
The app gets information from a global feed handled by transit data company Ito World, and shows you bikes from every system. Google reckons there 1,600 bike-share systems and more than 18 million shared bikes rolling around cities globally.
"Just like how we show you when buses and trains are coming and going in Google Maps, you'll now know which bikeshare stations have a bike ready for you," Andrew Hyatt, a Google Maps software engineer, wrote in a blog post.
The feature rolled out to Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Chicago, Dublin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Kaohsiung, London, Los Angeles, Lyon, Madrid, Mexico City, Montreal, New Taipei City, Rio de Janeiro, the San Francisco Bay Area, São Paulo, Toronto, Vienna, Warsaw and Zurich.
