The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is a chance for the titans of tech to make a statement about what the coming year will look like.

For Sony, CES 2016 will likely look a lot like CES 2015: a press conference dedicated to pushing the medium of 4K video. The standard for ultra high-resolution video is just hitting the periphery of mainstream awareness (if you were good, Santa may have left you a 4K television under the Christmas tree), and Sony will likely want to raise the 4K flag even higher.

Given the tendency for televisions to dominate at CES, we're likely to see thinner, larger and sharper 4K televisions, as well as the usual assortment of cameras, camcorders and other devices such as smartwatches. CNET will be on hand to bring you all the news, photos, video and commentary from Sony's press conference at 5 p.m. PT on Tuesday.

Last year saw 4K televisions, 4K camcorders and even an announcement from Netflix about streaming 4K video from Sony. The cause was further helped by Apple's iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, which can now shoot 4K video. It also helped that the price of these televisions have fallen to more reasonable levels, with 4K television at the forefront of many Black Friday specials.

One device Sony will likely hold back is any new smartphone in the works. The company typically saves that announcement for the more wireless-centric Mobile World Congress in February, or the IFA consumer electronics trade show in September.
