The long awaited Australian release of the Xbox 360 occured this morning at 12.01am. Based on pre-order figures, Microsoft is estimating that between AU$30 and AU$40 million worth of consoles and games were sold at launch.
Several electronics stores around the country were open at midnight to deal with the rush. Rain almost washed out those gamers who attended the official launch party held in Sydney's Pitt St Mall, where close to 1000 people gathered to get their hands on the new Xbox 360. The large crowd was kept entertained by playable Xbox 360 units, hip-hop dancers and cheerleaders during last night's vigil.
