Sprint releases availability dates for HTC Touch Pro

by Bonnie Cha

Updated at 8:56 a.m. PDT with information about store availability.

After a slight delay, Sprint announced on Friday that the HTC Touch Pro will be available for purchase at Best Buy stores nationwide starting October 26 and will be available in all Sprint stores and online on November 2. The Touch Pro will cost $299.99 with a two-year contract (after a $100 mail-in-rebate and a $25 or higher data plan).

We know a lot of you have been waiting for this Windows Mobile smartphone, and it looks like we'll be getting our hands on the device around Tuesday, so we'll be working hard to get a full review up as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can check out this First Look video of the HTC Touch Pro from Fall CTIA 2008.

Successor to Mogul ?

Wanted to consider this as an better-tech refresh to my Sprint HTC Mogul but they sacrificed alot of attractive features of the Mogul in building the Touch Pro. The latter lacks: all the programmable side and front-facing buttons/switches that make the Mogul so darn convenient to use. Though they added a bunch of keys to the keyboard, for some reason they thought it was an improvement (?) to remove the "Ok" key - not good. The Mogul has two LEDs that flash different colors to indicate Bluetooth usage, Wifi usage, messages waiting, low battery, and phone-radio on/off. The Touch Pro has nowhere near this set of indicators, and it uses a backlight behind the d-pad to do this - good luck seeing that in daylight conditions. And yes the TouchFlo 3D is slick but what about all the 3rd party apps like PhoneWeaver and iLauncher that work so well on my Mogul ? They might be installable but they're sure not going to look right in TouchFlo environment.

No, this is no replacement for the Mogul and shouldn't even be referenced in that way. This is an entirely different creature that unfortunately won't interest me at this point. Now maybe if/when the Touch Pro HD debuts ...

Wow that was deep , just to be honest with me... Is this a "successior" the Mogul? it does not
seem that way in youre review.

There will not be any problem with installing the third party apps on the device. The phone still has the regular WM 6.1 OS on it. All you have to do to use the regular today screen instead of the touch flo interface is go to Settings > Today > items and remove the checkmark from touchflo interface.

What amazes me is that you can purchase this device at Best Buy before the sprint store even has it. Whats with that? Is sprint trying to lover that value of there stock even more........They are already in a downward spiral. This makes no sense what so ever!

The phone is a bit expensive, and how does it measure up to the Iphone? ATT, has cut their own throats for their plans are much too expensive period. At least sprint has packaged a great phone plan provided they don't also become greedy due to the influx of new customers. Been told that sprint also changed plans as of November 2nd? Can anyone give details of the new plans if this is actually true. If this is true then I will purchase the G1 from T-Mobile. Been waiting to see this touch pro before I make a final decision. Thanks

To 007mytam,

The new pricing plans for Sprint that start November 2nd were first mentioned at Slickdeals.
Here is a link to the details.

These new plans, if confirmed will bring a HUGH influx of customers to Sprint.

I bought the HTC Touch Pro from best buy and if one buys before the end of their business day this Saturday you will get the phone for $240.00. Here is how it works, no rebate to mess with, Price is $300 for the phone straight up, but if you are a best buy rewards member then you will get 20% off the price of $300 which makes that phone very affordable. The plan is basically the same starting November 2nd, best buys phone catalog with the plans of all the carriers had a error on Sprints family plans which they have a revised sheet attached to their booklet now. I am just begining to explore the features of this phone for just bought it yesterday. If you check your local best buy you will save $60 right off the top and no rebate to fill out for they already give you the rebate up front. Why can't sprint do this to?

Bought a Touch Pro a week ago and has one big problem!!!! The back of the phone at the top close to the camera lens area get extremely hot when speaking on the phone for even a short time and notice battery life has decreased also. Spoke to sprints tech and getting it replaced but this is a HTC problem!!!! Otherwise I like the phone but when one can hardly hold it in your hands after 15 minutes of talk time this is not normal.
