Sprint HTC Touch Pro delayed

Back at CTIA Fall 2008, Sprint announced that it would offer the HTC Touch Pro smartphone with an expected ship date of October 19. Well, with the date drawing close, I thought I'd check in with Sprint to see about getting a review unit; plus, I wanted to dispel a nasty rumor I had been hearing about a delayed launch. Friends, it's no rumor. The Touch Pro will not be available on the 19, but now we're looking to see the Windows Mobile 6.1 device around the end of October/early November. Here is the statement from my Sprint contact:

"Sprint expects to slightly delay launch of the Touch Pro by HTC to ensure we have adequate inventory in all channels before making the device commercially available. Customers can expect the device to become available in select national retailers by the end of the month and then in all Sprint sales channels including online at www.sprint.com and Sprint Stores by early November."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have a feeling people are willing to wait for the Touch Pro ... as long as it's not delayed again (*cough, cough, BlackBerry Bold, cough, cough.*)

The following product mentioned is available.

On Sale Now: $299.99

I don't doubt it will be delayed even further. I bought two Touch Diamonds last month and one of them has been having problems. Went to the corporate store and was told that they do not have any Touch Diamonds until the 17th of Oct. I found that strange since the phone was being sold since mid Sept. I called CS and they in turn called a few stores which confirmed that the Diamonds will not be in stores until the 17th. So it does not surprise me that there is a delay for the Touch Pro.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! I was impatiently waiting for this phone since the beginning of September! Sprint is becoming like Microsoft "Windows 7 will be released somewhere between July 2018 and September 2761".

Its coming out on the 24th, we got a memo about this awhile ago, so if not the 19th then the 24th for sure. I work for sprint and what we got is a hint at best. look for it on the 19th or the 24th.

P.s. its freaking tight.

Rumor has it, that it is going to be an HTC device similar to the G1 but thinner and flat. Iv also heard they are wanting to put the htc Touch HD for the 2nd gen of android. But who knows they always end up changing their minds...

After several calls to Sprint, and speaking with numerous Sprint employees, I have been told time and time again that it is on schedule for release on 10/19/08. Although they stated it is, of course, subject to change, no one has reported they have been given notice of a delay. Hopefully his Sprint contact is wrong as this phone release has been well anticipated!

does anybody know if the touch pro will offer talking text?
how about on wednesday of this week, the sprint website stated that they had the touch pro available 'online only', i called CS and they had no idea what i was talking about, went back to the site yesterday and the 'online only' under the htc touch pro was mysteriously gone....

It doesn't matter how long they delay it; it will be like every other HTC product - buggy and underpowered.

this is painful.. i have been carrying around my 7130e "the brick" for last 3 years and for the past year i been waiting for HTC touch pro.. cmonnnnn get you shyt together people.. economy is already bad, lets get with the program and make some money from people like me htc...

i will wait even if its delayed.. this is a ultimate phone.. i cant wait to test out the OCR on the back cam so i can take a pic of a buisness card and it converts it to my contacts.. that is simply beautiful...

Hopefully they will take this time to improve the camera because I hear that it not that great. It would be nice if they made a bigger screen as well. Otherwise I think its a great phone and I'm will to wait for it.

Sprint really should just set a date and stick to it. They had adequate time to prepare for the initial lauch date of 10/19/2008. It's this lack of preparedness that make people switch to other phone companies.

I Agree! I have CC in hand waiting to place and order for TWO Touch Pro's today! Usually they never have a problem taking my money, hell just yesterday i had an issue with them charging the wrong account for my monthy bill, after speaking with several CS Rep's (7) I finally spoke to a supervisor who took care of me above expectation! However, this is not the first I'm sure not the last issue I will have with this company this is why "TWMark" made the "Switcheroo comment" Kinda make ya go HUMMMM..... What's the problem Sprint HUH? Cmon Cmon Chop Chop!!!!!
