Normally during this time of year we stuff stockings; however, Sony has decided to stuff a box. According to Kotaku.com, there will be a new PlayStation 3 bundle just in time for the holidays. This box will include the 80GB PS3 console, accompanied by the Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Casino Royale on Blu-ray, all this while maintaining its $400 price tag.

A Best Buy employee provided this information to Kotaku.com. It's expected to go on sale this week, just in time for Black Friday. Whether it's a Best Buy exclusive has yet to be confirmed.

Or even better release a 60GB PS3 at a price identical to the 60GB Xbox.

Or even better: A PS3 THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD!!!!

Where's my 160gb model with Drake's Fortune? I could care less about ANOTHER 80gb SKU with another Blu-ray movie I'll never watch.............

The 160GB PS3 with Drakes Uncharted is now available at Gamestop for $500

i would still rather buy a $199 xbox 360, get a hard drive on ebay from $25-30 and buy a good standalone blu-ray player, rather than plunk down $400+ for a ps3. not to mention the accessories like extra controllers.

bro......the ps3 has one the best bluray players out there..(cnet uses it when the do there hdtv reviews)..overall your going to spend more on the xbox...hard drive...and a bluray player on something that will basically crap out on you. The cheapest bluray player you can find right now is 139.99 and you don't even know if you'll be to update it at all......which means you won't be able to play future titles. BE A SMART CONSUMER....Its not about being a fanboy. Total package belongs to sony....you have to admit it.
Be smart.....the ps3 will be a succesfull console just like the ps2 was and still is.....It will be a console that will provide years of entertainment....
by mizzoupig November 24, 2008 2:48 PM PST
sony total package huh?

what about game selection?
what about a (QUALITY) online gaming experience?
............................................
............................................

im afraid that poor sony all you have on the xbox 360 is bluray, and that's not really working in your favor at the moment with pi$$ poor bluray sales... maybe you can get a boat load of UMD movies on ebay or amazon for $.50 apiece, and watch those...
by cabrillo24 November 25, 2008 6:50 AM PST
I think the 360 as a gaming console and online experience (gaming, digital downloads, Netflix, Media Center) is heads and shoulders above the PS3; however, the PS3 is a great Blu Ray player and upscales DVD's very well. The exclusive software titles for the PS3 aren't as extensive as the Xbox 360, but the PS3 is still a good gaming system.

As a Netflix user who owns a 360 and a PS3, I do love the functionality of streaming video on the 360, and I like the upscaling capabilities and Blu Ray aspects of a PS3.

If you want a gaming system and a Blu Ray player, the PS3 is a great choice.
by eeclark21 November 25, 2008 1:26 PM PST
the ps3 can stream as well, it can catch signals from pc and you can stream any movie from pc to the ps3 and on your tv. the netflix is the only slight significance that i see that the ps3 cant do and its only a matter of time.. but you can buy and rent movies on the ps3 too tho so its not like it cant do that either..
by liquefire November 24, 2008 12:54 PM PST
@lakereddie: Take your propaganda someplace else..... in order for your math to make sense you would have to find a DECENT bluray player for $170.... and that is not happening. Also, didnt know the $199 package came with multiple controllers, or a wireless adapter..... LOL!

Liquefire: sub-$100 BD players are coming, and a lot sooner than you appear to believe. With disc sales lagging well behind standard-def DVDs, the BD consortium has no choice but to drop prices everywhere they can...including on hardware. Any price advantage the PS3 had to offer with the all-n-one argument is quickly being flushed down the sewer.
by rnaoncfixd November 25, 2008 4:09 PM PST
@mizzoupig:
Yes. Because typing in caps the name of a game over and over again will win your argument. To be honest, I've played Halo and it was a boring game in my opinion.

The math (all prices according to Best Buy Currently):

X-Box 199.99
X-Box Controller 49.99
X-Box Live Accessor Bundle 169.97
Insignia Blu-Ray Player (currently the cheapest without sale) 169.99
Halo 3: 59.99
Gears of War 2: 59.99

Grand Total: 709.92
Without the hard drive I couldn't even load the games in for slightly faster load times. Add about 30 - 60$ depending on whether you would like to add your own hard drive or not. Also not taking into account that if you wanted to use Netflix, you'll have to pay a subscription, so add a yearly subscription of at least about 71.88 if you were planning on using that and you were a new customer.

PS3 40 GB System: 379,99
PS3 Controller: 49.99
Bluetooth Headset for PS3 49.99
Little Big Planet: 59.99
Resistance 2: 59.99
Wireless adapter: Free
Online Access: Free

Grand Total: 599.95
Saved myself about 100$ going with the PS3 with 40 GB more space and a much higher quality blu-ray player. Also, no subscription fees tied to the machine that will mount up the longer I own it.

As for the argument that X-Box has more games, it's not like PS3 has craptacular games. Litttle Big Planet, Resistance 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Heavenly Sword,
and a soon to be released Killzone 2.

Or maybe I should just type in all caps just one of the game titles mentioned over and over again to compete?

Firstly, all you immature Xbox SuperFanboys should seriously go home.

Secondly, as a former Xbox fanboy (and recent PS3 purchaser), the PS3 is currently the best deal for ANY Blu-ray player out there (if not the best deal for a game console), and I believe that as Blu-Ray players go down in price, the PS3s price will go down accordingly. Also, the PS3 has a great assortment of games (not quite the 360s assortment, but close) and 1ups the 360 for multiple reasons.

For example:
Blu-Ray
WiFi ($100 on the 360)
SIXAXIS
Bluetooth (I had the 360 wireless headset, and it is an uncomfortable POS. With the PS3, you can use any Bluetooth headset you want.)
Home (when it comes out... much better than Avatars)
Oh, and it doesn't break (I went through 4 Xbox 360s)

In reality, the Blu-Ray portion of the PS3 is much better than any sub-$400 standalone player. It rivals the quality of players costing twice as much, and it's a great game console to boot. In fact, the main purpose is still games, and it delivers.

I'm really sorry if that sounded fanboyish, but that is just the way it is.

i smell fanboy..

Sony has been offering discounts up to $150 off of the $400 playstation 3 80 gb on their own website...for almost a year now. I only wish an xbox 360 fanboy would do some research before butting in to threads to throw dirt. i know people who have purchased $400 ps3's for as low $190.. there are message boards full of these people as well. Welcome to the land of the smart consumer.

And about the online game experience, its free on the ps3 and i have a great time with it. Im sure 90% of xbox owners have spent more money on their "$199" xbox 360 than i have on my ps3.. simple as that.

Im two things in one, a man and a pretty smart shopper. -"Centaur" Old Spice commercial

could you tell me how you were able to get that discount on ps3?? Did you join sony.com??

"Im sure 90% of xbox owners have spent more money on their "$199" xbox 360 than i have on my ps3.. "

That's so true!!! You know why, because they actually have good games to buy unlike what's on that Blu-ray player disguised as a video game console.
by MastrCake November 25, 2008 8:45 AM PST
I think he is talking about hardware prices alone. Games on the PS3 are perfectly fine.

After all, if you buy a $199 Xbox arcade, in order to get SOME of what the PS3 offers, you need to buy:

A $100 60GB HDD (but still not 80GB)
A $100 WiFi Adapter

That brings you up to $399.

What would happen to the price if Microsoft added a Blu-Ray player?
by eeclark21 November 25, 2008 10:38 AM PST
liquidx01, i was just making a point to people who complain that price is the reason they hate the 360. the reason i was able to spend less is because i paid less for the system you clown. to get a portion of the features mine came with, you spent more. I just used the simple discounts and it took less than a week to process.

who said the xbox didn't have good games? better yet who told you the ps3 didn't? sir, what are you talking about?
by Liquidx01 November 25, 2008 11:26 AM PST
I know exactly what you meant...

Thing is, it's the only talking point you little PS3 fanboys bring up like it's an issue to gamers. Get real... the majority of them aren't gonna base their decision off of WIFI and such. If that was the case, the 360 wouldn't be trouncing the PS3 in sales...like it always has.

Maybe you all need to realize that if you bought a PS3 for gaming only, you were just part of Sony's plan. Using their largest fan base to succeed with a new format. It's always been obvious to everyone except Sony fanboys that they purposely cannibalized their gaming division for Blu-ray.

Other than Blu-ray, the PS3 is the worst $400 I've ever spent. It's ridiculous how infrequent I even turn it on because with the exception of 2 games, the library it pathetic... still.

Whatever, enjoy the view from last place, because you'll always be there.

Oh and here is a quote from Phil Harrison, former? Sony honcho...

"People will buy a PS3 even if it has no games"

Ha, even he knew his fan base were tools... rofl.
by MastrCake November 25, 2008 11:48 AM PST
liquidx01, you are really embarassing yourself.

Phill Harrison left Sony, and he made some pretty dumb quotes, so don't even bring him into this. He does not represent the PlayStation gamer base.

If the PS3 launched a year earlier than the 360 (or even at the same time), it would probably be in second (behind that awful thing called Wii).

Also, I needed Wifi, so that was one factor that determined my switch in fanboyism (after my 360 got stolen). Another was the value But the most important was the great selection of games. It's not as high of a percentage of shooters as the 360, and I like a variety of good games.

Even though the 360 had a lead on the PS3 by 10 Million systems at PS3 launch, it has dropped to around 8 million, and I can see their lead going away within the next two years, if PS3 sales growth stays strong and the price goes down in March (as expected), and more people realize how bad of a deal the 360 is.

The least important factor determining my purchase was Blu-Ray. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but it is really not all that important. I just really like the system as a whole more than I like the 360.
by eeclark21 November 25, 2008 1:14 PM PST
im sorry you paid $400 for a system you didnt like, no reason to be mad at sony, its your fault. i paid less than that and i think its great, i watch blu-ray movies on my hd tv, and the wifi is great, all the games i play on it are online and i dont have to worry about hardware issues. or additional necessary purchases other than controllers....sounds good to me..plus if i really wanted to play a xbox exclusive i could just rent a xbox.. or borrow a friends..nobody borrows my ps3... nobody!
by eeclark21 November 25, 2008 1:22 PM PST
dont get me wrong, i think microsoft is a great company, they have tons of money to do whatever they want. i enjoy the competition and what it does to the prices. the next gen xbox will probably be awesome. but for right now, i think the ps3 is the better of the two. It has more to offer and it hasnt even shown everything it can do yet. i just think that if most people knew how easy it is to get a ps3 for xbox arcade prices, they would chose it over the xbox.
by dctech08 November 24, 2008 7:59 PM PST

I bought my ps3 from a sony style store, free of all 360 fanboys, just fyi, it was great.

Its funny that you say the PS3 is the better console, when the 360 is outselling it by a large margin. I don't think it matters what Sony does, they will never catch the 360 in sales. Even when the PS3 s online play is free, more and more people pay for LIVE, for a better experience on a the better console. The reason why I bought a 360 was for games. I admit the PS3 is a great blue ray player, but that's all. 360 has more and better games.....period.

@ eeclark21, oh and 360 fanboys are in the sony style store, but we're in the tv section

The X360 is outselling the Ps3 because it's been out since 2005, and the Ps3 was launched in 2007.
Also, though quality games used to be few, now they are pouring out.
by MastrCake November 25, 2008 8:46 AM PST
Actually, the PS3 came out in 2006, but you still have a point.
by eeclark21 November 25, 2008 10:22 AM PST
i didnt mention anything about ps3 being a better console simply because thats only an opinion, but the price, if you do the research is just as affordable if not more than the ps3.. its too bad people are lazy and just pick up products like zombies when they could be saving dough for something with more features.

As far as my opinion goes.. out of the box, ps3 blast the 360. there is so much free content on the ps3 now that the 360 seems like a waste to me. The playstation network (free) has flaws but overall, it has outdone it self with boat loads of free demos for downloading and now home which is a (free) virtual world. The real world is more interesting but when i want to blow it up :P, this seems like a interesting feature. websurfing is great, and PS3 updates the console every other week or so with improvements through the internet. the ps3 is better than it was out of the box when it was released which is something crazy.

oh and the games are great! this console will last for probably 3 more years. if not more.

the 360 may have some similarities but ill let someone else make that comparison.

I used to enjoy all kinds of computer games and tried a lot of them. Of course due to my talent to get bored very quickly I never finished them. So, after a while instead of playing them I started to keep myself informed on news, latest games publishings and all the stuff related to games. Now I can find all the games news and reviews on PC District.com.

Both systems are great. Both systems price points are well worth the investment. People who sway one way or the other have not given thought or praise to the opposite choice. The reason why Xbox has a better online community is because you pay for it. The Playstation 3 has a lot more tech then the Xbox which is why you pay more money. Its pretty simple. I don't know why people can't look at both and say that they are each great for what they do. Die hard fans are boring. I would hate to be stuck praising one thing and not playing devils advocate with the other. One track minds...most of the negativity here is due to ignorance not fact.

One reason (I think) why there won't be any price drops (I could be wrong) is that the PS3 is not just a "gaming console". It is advertised as a "computer entertainment system", which is different than just a gaming console.
Sony not only sees the PS3 as a gaming system, but much more. Thus the reason they aren't dropping the price to compete with the 360 (which is a "gaming console"). They aren't the same, yet they are.

Offering the blu ray and easily upgradable hard drives allow people to easily use it as a computer. Now the 360 has an HD (but not the $199 one) as well and can also be used to store media as well. But believe it or not the blu ray player is a big seller for a lot of people.

I, like most people, buy what I like, and want I want. Sure brand loyalty plays a lot in it, but a lot of decisions go that way these days. Why do people buy the same stuff all the time at the grocery store? They tried it, they liked it, so they buy it, and won't try anything else. I loved my ps1, I loved my ps2, so I bought a ps3 and love it. I tried a zune out, got a hell of a deal on a brand new one, bought it, and I love it.

- - - Now lets do a little math comparison - - -

So ya spend $200 on a hdless 360, and then spend the $130 on a black friday walmart special (if you are lucky enough to get one)......that puts you at $330 (if you can't get a cheap blu ray player, we will just say $150 is a reasonble price. That puts you at $350)

A brand new 40gig PS3 is $380.........(now the good deal is the 160gigPS3 w/ drakes fortune for the same price as the 80gig, but that's another story)

So a $50 difference (w/the walmart special). Now $50 is a lot for some people, and not for others. And I know the fan boys will say "I can get an HD off of ebay for $30", and all those things, and that's all good.

Ok, so lets say you get an HD off of ebay for $30... your total now (with nothing but deals) is $360

So $360 for your xbox and all the other stuff. You still can't connect wirelessly to the internet (something else you have to buy). Let's say you get that for $20.

There is $380 for your 360 (if you can manage some good deals), your blu ray player, your internet connection device........now you gotta buy a game, and an xbox live sub if you want to do anything online.

Just seems like a lot more work than going to best buy and picking up a PS3 40 and having it all in one box.

I'd rather they add new features and FINALLY get Home up then focus on older technology. Backwards compatibility used to be a big thing for me but I haven't really touched my PS2 since I got my PS3 anyhow. Sure, every now and again I'm sure I'll bust out Final Fantasy 7 but right now the main focus should be on getting NEW games out, not just rehashing older ones.

Sorry bubb, but BluRay is not the future. Its will have its time but it will be no DVD.

As for the Fanboyisum going on in this thread hear this. Both system have their PROS and CONs. I was a proud owner of all three systems at one time. I currently have one, the 360. I have replaced 2 of them but it was free to replace, thanks MSFT. The PS3 I sold because i wasn't playing it due to all the games i bought that have online functionality i always picked up for the 360. Just better online service(you get what you pay for i guess), and i fell in love with the controller. Been a fan of the Sony Consoles for yrs but the PS3 just don't do it for me this time around. The Wii i gave to my niece and nephew, got no playing time from me except for when i first got it and when the guys came over for some Smashbros. I not a Fanboy by any means but the system i play is the 360 and this Gen the best system TO ME. So my opinion! All gamers are not created equal and we certainly don't play the same games or i should say type of games. Choose the system thats best for you or buy them all. My2cents!!!!
by solblack November 26, 2008 11:23 AM PST
First have they solved the red ring of death on the 360?
Second i'm not paying to play a game online period.
I thank both systems are great!
MS got a jump on the developers for 360 so Sony playing catchup (Same advantage Sony had on PS2)

Ok obviously some of you people don't keep up with things.. if you haven't realized Blu-ray has won the HD war.. HD dvds are no longer being made nor are the players. which is y you can get them so cheap on ebay. because noone wants them because they lost.. so for all you XBOX lovers you lose.. plain and simple.. No more HD DVD's.. so about the price difference the PS3's hardware alone is worth much more then the Xbox 360,. and if you play both Gaming systems with the same game,. a good example. COD4, ps3 is faster and smother, then the 360,. but i would expect it when you have 7 3.4ghz processors vs 3 of them.. in the xbox.. i dont know anyone of my computer nerd friends that have a cell processor in there computers.. probably because the processor alone is worth what they are charging for the system and you get all the added bonus's that everyone else had mentioned in previous comments that would be redundant for me to repeat.. so go ahead and buy and enjoy your already obsolete Xbox 360.. the only true next gen. gaming system is the PS3

I'm not playing fanboy here as I have a 360 and a PS3, but sites like gamespot have done a lot of graphics comparisons and almost all the time the 360 has better looking detail. As far as smoothness goes, COD4 and Madden08 are the only games I've seen on both systems and both of them looked a tad smoother on my 360 than my PS3...both set to 1080p on a 32in screen.
