Open Season Episode 20: In which we talk about everything and nothing

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

I was on a ridiculous amount of cold medicine when we recorded this week's Open Season podcast, bringing us to Episode 20.

I just wanted to talk about Clouds but Ashlee seemed obsessed with dieting and Matt led us down a path of censoring non-offensive movies. I wonder if he knows that Bambi's mother eventually gets her brain eaten by zombie robots from outer space?

Open Season Episode 19: Kermit the Frog or Bill Gates? You decide.

by Dave Rosenberg

Our Open Season podcast series continued with Episode 19 last week as we wallowed in my general inabilities and the fact that open source realities are starting to kick in for many people.

Topics:
-Apache licensing and the inability to make money
-Bill Gates' departure
-Contest: Bill Gates or Kermit the Frog

We were also joined briefly by RMS, Bill Gates, Nick Carr and others. It was an all-star event.

Open Season Episode 17: I can't believe we are still doing podcasts

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

The latest episode of our Open Season podcast series is live for your enjoyment.

This time, former Sleepycat/Oracle bigwig Mike Olson joins us and provides clarity across our mess of discussion. What do we talk about?

* The Jim Gray tribute
* The OLPC is the worst kind of charity
* CBS splashes for CNET
* We bring you the touch screen missile command
* Middleware is over and the cloud is a disaster
* People seem not too moved by JavaFX
* Matt on the open source free ride

Open Season Episode 15 - Open Source and Cloud Computing

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

I haven't been able to kick this back problem (2 weeks with a slipped disc) but we did manage to record episode 15 of the Open Season podcast series.

This time we talk about:
- The Cloud and why we need Java there
- The inevitable fall-out from Microsoft's Yahoo tomfoolery
- Google AppEngine
- and so much more!

If anyone out there has a better way to record these things we're open to suggestion. Ashlee's latest Skype move (port forwarding and all that) is pretty much crap.

Open Season Episode 13: Advice on open source that you can actually use

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

For this week's Open Season we had the always enjoyable and fully bearded Michael Cote from Red Monk joining the illustrious team of myself, Matt Asay and Ashlee Vance.

This time we actually focused and talked about things that are important, including why you still can't trust Microsoft, why Google is inevitably evil and why the Sarah Lacy SXSW meltdown didn't seem that bad when watched online.

Rock on.

(Fake) Steve Jobs Podcast with Dan Lyons now live

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

This week's episode of Open Season is our worst technically but probably the most entertaining content-wise.

When I first read the FSJ blog I knew the writing was too good for it not to be a legit journalist. And the amazing thing is he is still cranking out great, completely absurd blog posts. It's like Monty Python for the valley crowd.

In the podcast Dan is really funny and very candid about his work. I think I was the first one in this episode to give him a hard time about some of his previous comments about open source, but he not only explained every one of them but also proved that he is an open source supporter...only time will tell :>

Open Season Episode 11: Some stuff happened and we did a podcast about it

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

If you've got a half-hour, we've got a podcast for you. This week on Open Season, Matt Asay, Ashlee Vance and I talk about a whole lot of nothing, including:

  • My MacBook Air (I am still in love)
  • XenSource
  • Sun
  • Lies and damn lies about open source on Intel's website
We made an attempt on this 2 weeks back but our petard was hoisted by a shoddy conference bridge. Technology is only occasionally my friend.

Take a ride on Open Season Episode 10 with Marten Mickos and Rich Green

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

It only took 10 episodes of our illustrious podcast series for us to get the big-dog interview. That's right, Matt Asay, me, and Ashlee Vance spent an hour with Marten and Rich to figure out just what the heck happened and why it didn't happen to us!

Open Season Episode 10: The MySQL acquisition forces us off our respective couches.

I wish someone would give me $1 billion after a five week courtship.

Open Season Episode 8 - Anger and Coffee

by Dave Rosenberg
  • Post a comment

Just when you thought that content couldn't get any more superfluous we are back with a new episode of Open Season, where me, Matt Asay and Ashlee Vance talk smack about pretty much everything while delivering the occasional insight.

I had a rough morning the day we recorded so please forgive my rage. Ashlee was sick and Matt wanted to watch Soccer. I miss my blog-hater already.
