The XGPS300 cradle for the iPod Touch looks much like a protective case. You can slide the iPod Touch into the cradle and use it as usual.
On the back, the XGPS300 has a switch that makes it work either as a juice pack or a GPS device. It can't work as both at a time.
The first time you turn the GPS function of the cradle on, there will be a prompt to tell you to download the free app from the App Store.
The app is called NavAtlas and it works only with the iPod Touch when used specifically with the XGPS300 cradle. It won't do anything if you don't have the cradle.
Once both the hardware and software is installed, the iPod Touch works very much like an iPhone 3G (or 3GS) in terms of GPS functionality.
The XGSP300 cradle connects to a computer via a Mini-USB port. You can charge the cradle, charge the iPod, and sync via this port.
The XGPS300 also comes with a car kit, complete with a windshield-mounting device and a car charger.
The NavAtlas app works both vertically...
...and horizontally.
