Regarding Microsoft Office v. X:

Office v. X in short supply? Rebecca Gordon ordered her copy of Office v. X through the Apple Store on Thursday of last week and received this message today:

"Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship MICROSOFT-OFFICE X FOR MAC by the date you were originally quoted. Our goal is to ship your order within the next 4 business days."

Office Product Key glitch Ben Zabriskie writes: "I received my upgrade to Office Mac v. X yesterday. When I dragged the Office file from the CD to my hard drive, it refused to accept the Product Key number as valid. Microsoft Tech department said that is the second incident with this problem and they were working on a solution. It may be related to discs that are sent under the Technology Guarantee Program."

Marty Cohen reports a similar situation with his Free Upgrade CD.

The return of the Word Save bug? When working with a beta version of Office v. X that Microsoft sent us, we had a recurrence of an old problem in Word. After repeatedly saving a document, we got the message that said the document could not be saved because "too many files were open." As described in our previous coverage (one, two and three), if you don't know what to do here, you can easily lose the entire document! We reported this to Microsoft and they claimed it would be fixed for the release version. However, we have not yet been able to test this out. So be careful! The work-around is to occasionally close and re-open the document before that error message (or the related "Disk full" one) appears.
