Troubleshooting Adobe GoLive 4.0.1

CNET staff
Font Manager update problem: some say yes; others say no Last time, we reported problems updating to GoLive 4.0.1, apparently linked to having used Apple's Font Manager Update 1.0. Reinstalling a clean copy of GoLive 4.0 is a work-around. David Craig confirmed this exact problem and solution. However, a few readers (including Ira Altschiller, Glenn Boley, and David Johnson) did not have any problems updating GoLive 4.0. [A thought that occurred to me as I wrote this: Running Font First Aid is the likely source of the problem (for those that have it), not just installing the Update extension. Perhaps those not having the problem never ran Font First Aid? However, at least one user, Dennis Hibar, did run the utility and still had no problems.]

Type 12 errors A couple of readers (Russ Wiles and Anthony Anselmo) report what may be a separate problem with the GoLive updated application: A Type 12 error when trying to open a site. Anthony suggests this will happen "if you changed or have moved any of the actions in your Adobe GoLive folder" prior to installing the update. His solution: "Reinstall Adobe GoLive 4.0, upgrade to 4.01 and then add extra (freeware) actions." [Update: Anthony now speculates that the Font Manager Update was involved here after all.]

Foreign Dictionaries Michel Tagliati reports being unable to access anything beyond GoLive's English dictionaries, even with version 4.0.1, and despite following the advice in the Adobe tech support document on the subject.
