Tip for connecting to problematic Time Capsules

Use "join other network"

CNET staff

[Friday, March 7th]

We previously reported on problems connecting some Macs -- particularly those running Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) -- to the wireless router component of Apple's newly shipping Time Capsule. We noted that some readers are having success disabling wireless security in order to establish connections -- obviously not a viable solution.

It now appears that using the "Join Other Network" option and manually entering the Time Capule network's name can result in a successful connection. MacFixIt reader Pericles Toscas writes:

"On Leopard I have noticed that you may occasionally have to use the option "Join other network" which lets you set what type of security the wireless device (in this case the time capsule) uses.  Even though you see your network listed under the airport icon."
