Surf Express 1.1.1 conflicts: the final follow-up;<br>Connectix confirms that a fix is on the way

CNET staff
Robert Mathews spoke to Connectix regarding his idea as to why Surf Express conflicted with his software (see item last time). Connectix confirmed his theory (about the "Get1IndResource" call), while adding that the problem only seems to happen if Internet Config is also present. Fitting in with this, Timothy Hanusa had previously sent me email noting that the Netscape animation problem with Surf Express was fixed when he turned off "Use Internet Config" in the "Identity" panel of Netscape's Preferences.

Meanwhile, Barebones Tech Support confirmed the conflict (previously reported here) between Surf Express 1.1.1 (but not 1.1) and BBEdit 4.5.1. (Thanks, Arch Getty.)

Finally, Taran Reese (of Connectix) emailed me to similarly confirm that Connectix had identified the source of these conflicts. He added: "We are currently working on an update to Surf Express that will remedy this problem. Users who are having problems using Surf Express 1.1.1 should reinstall Surf Express 1.1 and wait for our next update. We will continue to make the 1.1.1 update available, as the majority of Surf Express users will experience improved performance with version 1.1.1."

[I now declare a moratorium on Surf Express postings until this next update is released.]
