SpaceSaver and TechTool: desktop rebuilding conflict

CNET staff
James Greenidge kept getting an error message when trying to rebuild his desktop with TechTool. The message indicated that SpaceSaver was causing a problem. He contacted Aladdin about this and they replied: "It is all right to rebuild your Desktop using the normal Apple rebuild command while SpaceSaver is loaded and on. The issue TechTool reports has to do with having SpaceSaver loaded during a TechTool Desktop rebuild which results in anomalous behavior from Desktop Printing at startup. The workaround for TechTool users is to not have SpaceSaver loaded while a TechTool rebuild is being performed."
Update: A reader counters: "But if you have any applictions "Spacesaver-ed," and you rebuild your desktop with SpaceSaver turned off, you'll get generic icons for all associated files, and you won't be able to launch any files by double-clicking them." I haven't confirmed this for myself, but it sounds right.
