Solution for "forgetful" Internet preferences in Mac OS X

CNET staff

We have covered the issue of "forgetful" Internet preferences - where the settings, whether set in System Preferences/Internet or in the Browser preferences revert to default - several times in the past, but no consistent workaround has emerged until now.

MacFixIt reader Ro suggests - confirmed on a problematic system in-house - that you set Internet preferences as desired and then lock the "com.apple.internetconfig.plist" file in through the Get Info window (search for com.apple.internetconfig.plist, select it in the Finder and press "Command-I")

Of course you will have to unlock the preference before making changes and re-lock it afterwards.
