Shared Library Manager from Microsoft Office causes system crash at startup

If you install Microsoft Office, you may find that it installs a Shared Library Manager file (version 1.1.2?). Especially on a G3 Mac or on any Mac running Mac OS 8.1, this file may replace (or override) the newer Apple version of SLM that was already in the System Folder. If so, the result will be a system crash at startup. Deleting the Microsoft-originated file (after starting up with extensions off or from another disk if necessary) - and reinstalling the Apple version - eliminates the problem.
